Eneris solutions this year announces important milestones, break 500te in turnover, and positive operational cashflow. Thomas O'Rourke: “This definitely a sign that the original focus of Eneris was sound, and they they are able to support the business goals of the company. Eneris had struggled in the beginning, but has steadily developed for the last few years. We have needed to adjust our operational focus over time, but our strong belief in the customer benefits of modern software technologies has helped weather the transitions. In the beginning we were too academically focused on new technologies which were not mature enough – now our core focus even more on our customer, how can we help them achieve their goals. We only uses solid, mature technologies”.

Eneris offers professional software development services and products for services oriented applications Internet and process-oriented productivity applications. Our main technology focus has been J2EE and .Net, but we also work in C++, etc. This combined with open source technologies. “It 's really about a way of thinking more than it is about the language or tool. A good example is databases, there is no reason for a company to pay a license for a database, when technologies like MySQL and PostgreSQL are available. We're not advocating any radical thinking, this is how the world works today. Software has become more services oriented, that's clear.”

“A lot of companies were writing applications a few years ago, and the bad news is that many of these need to be re-written because they are hard to maintain, don't network or integrate well with modern standards, and don't perform or scale very well. The good news is the productivity has gone up in the software industry, we can now achieve much better results, applications have a longer live-span, have lower in maintenance costs – much faster and at less cost.”

“We think very international, but our strategy is very local. Finland has some of the best Internet infrastructures in the world, but outside of banking Finland has not realized what can be done. There is less focus today on generic product suites, like Microsoft Office, and more focus on providing simple applications that fit the processes of users, i.e., the way they work, and what they are trying to accomplish.”

“Our goal is to be the best software supplier in northern Finland. We have adopted a very local focus, which has helped us to come to this important turning point. We are easy to talk with, and never talk down to our customers – our customer and their business are king. Software is a tool to help them achieve their goals. Eneris is still a small supplier, and we need to offer our customers something better – more professional service, at a better cost.”

“A lot of companies in Oulu are worried about price pressure from lower cost labor markets – they should be and so are we. So what's the answer? We must compete. In Oulu we can really take advantage of networking, and build teams to efficiently develop vertical market applications. Like I mentioned, software applications are becoming more process focused, which means that we have a better ability to utilized cross-discipline expertise. This saves time and money, and allows very focused teams to run at a high efficiency levels. Software is one key part in many companies success chain.
